Alicia Keys, born Alicia Augello Cook, was raised in the Hell’s Kitchen neighborhood of Manhattan in New York City. She was born on January 25, 1981. Keys was raised by her mother, Teresa Augello, after her parents separated when she was very young. Her mother encouraged her interest in music from a young age and enrolled her in music and dance classes.
Keys showed immense talent and passion for music, learning to play the piano by ear at the age of seven. She attended the Professional Performing Arts School in Manhattan and graduated as valedictorian at the age of 16. During her formative years, she was exposed to diverse musical influences, including classical music, jazz, soul, and hip-hop, which would later shape her own distinctive musical style.
