Gladiator is a 2000 epic historical drama film directed by Ridley Scott and starring Russell Crowe, Joaquin Phoenix, Connie Nielsen, and Oliver Reed. The film is set in the Roman Empire and follows Maximus Decimus Meridius, a loyal general who is betrayed by the corrupt emperor’s son, Commodus. Maximus is forced into slavery and must fight as a gladiator to seek revenge against Commodus and restore Rome to its former glory.
