Netflix’s “One Piece” TV Series Target At Least 6 Seasons: The upper limit reaches 12 seasons

One Piece

One Piece is set to run for at least 6 seasons. Netflix’s manga adaptation has long-term goals.

The One Piece series plans to confront viewers with a story that will last at least 6 seasons. Netflix’s new hit is preparing for a long-term adventure.

Netflix’s One Piece series, which was approved for season 2 two weeks after it went on air, took its place among the platform’s popular content. In the first 4 days, the production ranked first in 84 countries and received 18.5 million views in this period.

Created by Eiichiro Oda, the manga series began publication in 1997. The anime adaptation, which started in 1999, has already left 1,000 episodes behind. One Piece, which is one of the first productions that come to mind when it comes to anime and manga, is among the projects that Netflix approaches with special interest.

With a production budget of $18 million per episode, the series has surpassed the final season of Game of Thrones, and future plans are already taking shape.

One Piece producers aim for at least 6 seasons
One Piece executive producers Marty Adelstein and Becky Clements of Tomorrow Studios told Deadline that they are aiming for at least 6 seasons. The duo also stated that they have material that could last 12 seasons.

“We have hopes for 12 seasons. There is a lot of material at hand,” Adelstein said. Clements, on the other hand, stated that they are ready for at least 6 seasons if Netflix gives the green light:

“We’re now 1,080 chapters into the manga. Matt Owens and I have plans on how to split multiple seasons. I think even if we do 6 seasons, we’ll probably only use half of the divisions in the manga. There really could be a sequel to this series.”

Clements also gave information about how they went about deciding which parts of the manga would be adapted. The producer said that all these details were decided together with Netflix, Shueisha, the publisher of the manga series, and One Piece creator Eiichiro Oda.

“We definitely had more detailed meetings about what we were going to do in season 2. And then we had less detailed conversations about where we’re going for season three to six. So this is really a start for the seasons to come. It’s going to take a lot of talking, but we feel lucky to have the roadmap.”

Fan Favorite Episodes to be Screened
Clements finally assured that the series will prioritize fan-favorite One Piece stories.

“The only thing I can say is that we all found common ground on parts of the manga that you absolutely cannot ignore. That’s our guiding principle: Story and characters that we know are important to the fans.”

One Piece Season 2 is expected to start shooting once the ongoing strikes in Hollywood are over.
