1. His Parents Immigrated from Haiti
Although he was born in Pompano Beach, Florida, his parents immigrated from Haiti. His parents separated and Black was raised by his mother Marcelene Octave in a social housing called Golden Acres. Since his father was not there to financially support them, Black committed theft.
2. The Highest List Single “Tunnel Vision”
Black’s highest list single was his 6th single “Tunnel Vision”. The song raised at #6 on the US Billboard Charts, #4 on the R&D/Hip-Hop Chart, and #2 on the US Rap Chart. Tunnel Vision was released as a single on 17 February 2017 and included in Black’s first studio album “Painting Pictures”.
3. He Has Lots of Names
Kodak Black is his stage name and he has other names. He was born as Dieuson Octave. When he was 6, he started to use “Black” and “Lil Black” nicknames. He used “Kodak Black” name when he joined Instagram and decided to use this name as his stage name. During a spell in prison, he read the scriptures with a priest in the prison service and identified himself as a Hebrew Israelite. He applied to change his name to “Bill Kahan Blanco”. “Kahan” means rabbi in Hebrew.
4. He Formed Rap Groups
Kodak Black started to rap in the elementary school as he went to a local record shop to record music after school. He joined to a young rap group called “Brutal Youngz” when he was 12. Then, he was a part of a rap group called “Kolyons”. He said Lil Boosie was his inspiration when he started his solo career.
5. He Was Arrested a Lot
Sexual harassment charges are not the first incident by Kodak Black and he was arrested multiple times in the last 2 years. These crimes included possession of weapons, false imprisonment and armed robbery He was sentenced to 4 years of prison on September 2016 due to drugs. In May 2017, he was sentenced to 364 days in prison for breaking his house arrest. He was released early after completing his life skills course.
