The plutonium element, which was obtained in the laboratory in 1941, was named after Pluto.

Nitrogen, methane, and carbon monoxide are frozen on Pluto. It is solid.

Launched into space in 2006, New Horizons visited Pluto in 2015. No spacecraft has ever visited Pluto before that.
