1- They have had a Top 40 hit in four different decades

While the song from Armageddon might have been their only number one single, Aerosmith have had a constant presence in the top 40 for four decades now. In 1976, “Sweet Emotion was the band’s first Top 40 hit and one of six Top 40 hits of that decade. In 1987, “Dude (Looks Like a Lady)” was the first Top 40 hit of the 80s and one of five for that decade. 1990 opened with “What it Takes” hitting ninth, one of nine Top 40 hits of that decade. In 2001, “Jaded” was the bands only Top 40 hit of that decade. While they had two Top 40 U.S. Rock hits in 2012, they have not hit the Billboard Top 40 since 2001.

2- Aerosmith appeared in the Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band movie

While The Beatles Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band was a huge hit and one of the most influential albums of all time, the movie based on the album is widely considered one of the worst films of all time. Released in 1978, Aerosmith appears in the movie as a fictional band called Future Villain Band (FVB).

3- Steven Tyler and Joe Perry’s first interaction happened in N.H. – and it was over french

Though Joe Perry and Steven Tyler didn’t officially meet until at The Barn, it was at a restaurant called the Anchorage where Steven had what he described as the best french fries of his life. He wanted to compliment whoever made them, and the cook turned out to be Joe! He wasn’t happy to meet Steven at the time, though, because Steven and his friends would always throw fries and make a mess that Joe had to clean up after them.

4- Steven and Joe first discussed joining their bands together in 1970

When Joe’s Jam Band and Steven’s Chain Reaction played the same gig together, Steven loved the Jam Band’s sound and decided to strike up a conversation. They reconvened in October 1970 to seriously discuss forming the new band. Steven insisted on being the frontman, while Joey Kramer would remain the drummer. And that is how Aerosmith was born!

5- Only one of their albums didn’t include the original lineup

Aerosmith have gone through almost their entire career with the same lineup of Steven Tyler on vocals, Joe Perry on lead guitar, Bradley Whitford on rhythm guitar, Tom Hamilton on bass, and Joey Kramer on drums. Out of all their studio albums, only one did not include the original lineup and that was the 1982 album Rock in a Hard Place. Joe Perry was not on it at all and Bradley Whitford quit while recording it.

6- Steven Tyler visited his grandfather’s New Hampshire farm as a boy

In Aerosmith’s latest autobiography, Steven Tyler described himself as a “total mountain boy”. He ran around the woods barefoot, hunting and fishing. So it’s easy to see where he got his sense of adventure! That very farm was where his interest in showbiz began. On weekends he would perform “skits” on a makeshift stage in a barn for family & friends.

7- Steven Tyler first moved to Boston in late 1968

He moved back-and-forth between Boston and New York for a time, while his band attempted to bring rock & roll to the more folk-dominated Boston music scene. He saw Led Zeppelin for the first time ever in Boston at the former Boston Tea Party in 1969. He described their set as “like great sex” and “so heavy that it made me cry”.

8-Drugs almost ended the band’s career in the 70s and 80s

Throughout the 70s and early 80s, the members of Aerosmith got involved heavily with drugs, and by the time they set out on their reunion tour, drugs had almost destroyed their careers. After an intervention, Steven Tyler completed a successful drug rehabilitation program, and in the next two years every other member completed rehabilitation programs as well. By 1987, they were clean and released their comeback album Permanent Vacation, their most successful album at that time

9-The Band’s biggest hit came from the Armageddon soundtrack

While Aerosmith had many hit albums, and both Get a Grip and Pump were both monster hits, their biggest hit song did not even come from an Aerosmith album. In 1998, Aerosmith released the song “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing” for the disaster movie Armageddon and it ended up being the bands only number one single

10- Steven Tyler’s first band was with his dad and uncle in New Hampshire

He started out trying to learn piano, but didn’t like it. His dad eventually bought him a set of drums, which he used to play with his dad and uncle’s band. They played shows in the Sunapee area during summers away from home in New York.

11- The band moved into 1325 Commonwealth Ave. in Boston together

That’s where they wrote and rehearsed music together, and hung out in-between gigs. Music had officially become their life, and thankfully for Aerosmith fans they stuck together until they hit it big. They returned to that very spot on Comm. Ave. in 2012 for a special concert that helped declare the building a Boston city landmark.
