Brienne of Tarth is a fictional character from George R. R. Martin’s fantasy series “A Song of Ice and Fire” and its television adaptation, “Game of Thrones,” produced by HBO. Brienne is portrayed by British actress Gwendoline Christie in the TV series.
Introduced in the second book of the series, “A Clash of Kings,” and the second season of the TV show, Brienne is the only living child of Lord Selwyn Tarth of Evenfall Hall, on the island of Tarth. She is unusually tall and muscular for a woman (which led to her receiving the derogatory nickname “Brienne the Beauty”), and she does not conform to the traditional ideals of femininity in the world of Westeros, where the series is set.
