JANUARY 1, 2002 – 56-year-old Eric Clapton married the 25-year-old American graphic designer Melia McEnery in front of a surprised crowd at the 15th century St. Mary Magdalen church near London in Ripley, Surrey, England.
His 16 year-old daughter Ruth, and the couple’s 6 month-old daughter Julia Rose (b. June 13, 2001) were getting baptized, and afterwards the 20 witnesses were surprised when the vicar turned to Clapton and McEnery and began the wedding ceremony.
