Vladan Milojević, the Serbian head coach of Red Star Belgrade, has openly praised FC Porto ahead of their crucial UEFA Europa League clash. The 55-year-old tactician believes that the Portuguese giants are currently in one of their strongest phases this season and could be serious contenders for the Europa League title.
“FC Porto are in top form”
Speaking to the press, Milojević described Porto as a team that looks “impressive in every department” and stressed that his side faces a very tough challenge.
“They are disciplined, fast, and full of quality. All of their players have embraced Francesco Farioli’s philosophy, who in my opinion is one of the most promising coaches of the new generation. Porto play with confidence and structure, and it’s up to us to respond effectively,” the Red Star boss said.
Tactical preparation and squad rotation
Milojević acknowledged that Porto might rotate their squad ahead of the Portuguese clásico, but insisted that this does not necessarily offer Red Star an advantage:
“I don’t know Farioli’s exact plans. We also have to make changes due to fatigue from our domestic league matches. I’m not a fan of heavy rotation, but it’s inevitable. What matters is that we continue improving in each European fixture.”
Bruno Duarte: “We must stay focused”
Red Star forward Bruno Duarte, who previously played in Portugal for Vitória de Guimarães and Farense, also expressed his anticipation of the challenge. The Brazilian striker has faced FC Porto five times in the past, losing all encounters, though he has scored twice against them.
“This will be another very difficult match. But we are fully focused. If I score, it will be fantastic, but the most important thing is winning as a team,” Duarte said.
He further acknowledged Porto’s high pressing style and highlighted the need for Red Star to exploit any available spaces:
“They press high and play very aggressively. FC Porto may be favorites, but in European competitions, surprises are always possible.”
A duel against Diogo Costa
The Brazilian forward also singled out Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa, who is widely regarded as one of Europe’s best young keepers:
“He is going through an outstanding moment in his career, but I believe I can find a way past him. That’s the beauty of football – facing the best and proving yourself.”
Outlook
Both clubs enter the upcoming clash with strong ambitions. While FC Porto remain the favorites on paper, Milojević and his Red Star squad are determined to fight until the end. With passionate fans behind them and a squad eager to prove itself, the Serbian champions will aim to deliver a European upset.
