BYD’s cheapest electric car is now even more affordable. The BYD Seagull EV Honor Edition is now available in China starting at $9,700, 5% cheaper than its predecessor.
BYD, which overtook Tesla late last year to become the world’s largest electric vehicle manufacturer, is carrying its momentum into 2024. Last month, BYD started a price war with internal combustion engine vehicles by launching the Qin Plus EV, which starts at $15,200.
Last year, BYD launched the Qin Plus Champion Edition (plug-in hybrid), priced under $13,900 for the first time. A few days later BYD unveiled the new Dolphin EV Honor, starting at $13,900.
Last week, BYD fueled the price war by slashing the prices of its new Tang and Han models. Then earlier this week, it slashed the price of its best-selling electric SUV, the Yuan Plus, to $16,600.
Finally, BYD launched the cheaper Seagull EV (Honor Edition) in China on Wednesday, priced at $9,700. The new A-segment Seagull features 30.08 kWh and 38.88 kWh BYD Blade battery packs, offering a CLTC range of 305 km and 405 km respectively. The batteries can go from 30% to 80% in 30 minutes. The engine power of the vehicle is 75 horsepower. The price of the car, which has three equipment options, goes up to 12,000 dollars.
