MAY 13, 1971 – Grace Slick of Jefferson Airplane crashed her Mercedes into a wall near the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco and was hospitalized, forcing the band to put off recording sessions for its new album “Bark” until the singer recovered from her injuries.
Slick is now retired from the music business, but focuses more of her energies on painting, a hobby she took up in the late 1960s after becoming encouraged by Grateful Dead member Jerry Garcia. The subjects of many of her paintings include some of her music contemporaries (including Garcia), white rabbits (a reoccurring theme), and even The Golden Gate Bridge.
