1- Its Story
If you like youth series, Skam is just for you. It shows the good and bad aspects of the life of the youth; their school life, their thoughts about popularity, their love lives, their transitions from adolescence to youth, their discoveries about themselves and sexuality, and their thoughts on drugs and alcohol. The events are entertaining, you don’t feel bored, it is at high speed. The seasons don’t have many episodes and they are also short. And you can still understand the evolution of the events in a short period of time.
2- The Characters
Skam makes us watch the youths. In the beginning, you may think that it has a shallow narrative but as the episodes progress, you start to get to know the characters deeply. We learn characters deeply and see their developments and even see ourselves in the characters. There are many characters and therefore anyone can find something about themselves. Each character experiences different things and evolves accordingly. They are distinctively different from each other but their friendship is so real that the show reminds us the differences do not create any obstacle to their gorgeous friendship.
3- The Actors
The actors in Skam are of the same age as their characters. Maybe only 1 or 2 years old. They are really in their high school age. With this you can feel the genuine atmosphere, you see their pimpled face and naive speaking. Because they experience the same things in their real life, the actors understand the characters correctly and convey their messages more genuinely.
4- Its Continuity
Skam’s other characteristic is that it focuses on different characters each season. The events form around his character. But because they have a really tight relationship we see them all and witness their point of view as well.
5- Public Messages
Though Skam is a short series and about youth it has many public messages. And because it conveys these messages by using the characters it doesn’t feel like a public service ad. In the show, they refer to many subjects like religious differences, war, refugees, rape, psychological disorders, and family issues. You can really see each of the different characters and you can find references from your own life or someone around you. Sometimes you will be on their side and sometimes you’ll just be angry at them. But it will just feel so real to you. Though Norwegian people don’t resemble Turkish people much, you will realize that some issues are just universal.
6- Its Music
In each episode of Skam, you can hear different songs. Each song is divided according to the characters and we are sure that you will find the ones you want to discover.
