A new feature seems to be coming to the mobile and Android Auto version of Google Maps. This new feature will enable buildings to be displayed in 3D during navigation.
US-based technology giant Google seems to be testing an important innovation for its Maps service. According to user feedback, the mobile app of Google Maps and the navigation app in Android Auto have started to support 3D structures during directions.
In fact, Google Maps already has 3D building support. However, this feature was not available during navigation. The latest testing process shows that this will change. However, it seems that this feature will not be the default because those who want to activate the feature will need to tap the layer button at the top right and then activate the 3D option.
According to reports, a handful of users saw this feature in December 2023. Now, however, it seems that there has been a wider rollout. By the way, in our checks, we saw that the 3D option was activated, but 3D buildings did not appear when we started the navigation. We did not get any results when we tried it on Android Auto, which means that the feature is still in its early stages.
Google has made no announcement about the new feature of its Maps service. As such, there are still unknowns about the upcoming feature. We expect Google to make a new announcement when the feature is ready for everyone.
