Jagger revealed that “Desolation Row” is his favorite Bob Dylan song, praising its interesting and diverse lyrics. He described creating a personal fantasy around the song’s imagery and expressed admiration for the juxtaposition of dark, apocalyptic themes with beautiful, half-Spanish guitar lines
“Jagger has directly linked his approach to writing “Sympathy for the Devil” to Dylan’s influence. He aimed to craft the lyrics in a vein similar to Dylan’s, combining a mix of poetic beginnings, historic references, and philosophical musings into a rock ‘n’ roll context.”
Jagger said that Dylan once declared, “I could have written ‘Satisfaction’ but you couldn’t have written ‘Mr. Tamborine Man.’”
