AMC new series announcements brought major attention during AMC Global Media’s presentation event in New York, where the company officially revealed updates and approvals for multiple upcoming television projects.

Among the biggest announcements were new adaptations of Point Break, The Grapes of Wrath, and the spy thriller franchise Bannerman. AMC also officially ordered the NASCAR drama Thunder Road to series.

The announcements show AMC continuing its strategy of investing heavily in adaptations, prestige dramas, and character-focused storytelling.

Bannerman Spy Series Officially Moving Forward

One of the most interesting projects announced was Bannerman, based on the bestselling spy novels written by John Maxim.

AMC Studios originally acquired the television rights to the Bannerman novels in 2023, and the project has now officially assembled a writing team.

The series will be executive produced by:

  • Shane Black
  • Greg Nicotero
  • Brian Witten

Shane Black will also direct the series.

The writing team is being led by Craig Silverstein, known for projects like Turn: Washington’s Spies and Pantheon.

The Bannerman novels follow former spy John Bannerman, who attempts to leave his dangerous past behind and settle into suburban life, only to be pulled back into the world of espionage and crime.

AMC executives described the project as both character-driven and highly entertaining, combining emotional drama with thriller elements.

Point Break TV Series Heads Toward Production

AMC also confirmed that development continues on the television adaptation of Point Break.

The original 1991 film starred:

  • Patrick Swayze
  • Keanu Reeves
  • Lori Petty
  • Gary Busey

The upcoming series is being written and executive produced by Dave Kalstein, known for work on Quantico and NCIS: Los Angeles.

According to AMC, the story takes place 25 years after the original movie and follows a dangerous new robbery crew connected to the infamous Ex-Presidents gang.

Production is expected to begin in Australia later this year, with AMC targeting a 2027 premiere.

Executives reportedly feel very confident about the script and are moving quickly with development.

The Grapes of Wrath Leads AMC’s Anthology Project

Another major project revealed during AMC’s event was Great American Stories.

The anthology series will begin with an adaptation of John Steinbeck’s legendary novel The Grapes of Wrath.

The adaptation is being developed by Rolin Jones alongside Brett C. Leonard.

Veteran producer Mark Johnson, known for projects such as Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, will oversee the anthology series.

AMC described Great American Stories as a project where each season explores a different iconic American story, historical event, or literary work that reflects the American spirit.

Production on The Grapes of Wrath adaptation is expected to begin before the end of the year, with a planned 2027 release.

Thunder Road NASCAR Drama Officially Ordered

AMC also officially approved Thunder Road, a NASCAR-themed drama starring Dennis Quaid.

The series is written by John Fusco, best known for films like Young Guns.

Quaid will portray racing legend Duane Whitlock, also known as “The Wrecking Ball,” a larger-than-life figure who built a racing empire from moonshine-running and dirt-track racing traditions.

AMC describes the story as both a sports drama and a family dynasty conflict centered around a fading working-class racing empire.

The project also includes executive producers:

  • Taylor Elmore
  • Cliff Roberts
  • Mark L. Smith

Production will begin this summer, with a 2027 release planned for AMC and AMC+.

AMC Continues Expanding Prestige Television

These AMC new series announcements show the company doubling down on prestige dramas, literary adaptations, nostalgic franchises, and high-profile creators.

With streaming competition continuing to intensify, networks are increasingly investing in recognizable intellectual properties combined with experienced writers and producers.

Between spy thrillers, sports dramas, literary adaptations, and action reboots, AMC appears determined to strengthen both AMC and AMC+ with a diverse lineup of original programming over the next few years.
