August 23, 1967 - The Who drummer Keith Moon drove his luxury Rolls-Royce automobile into a Holiday Inn swimming pool.

As the party had become out of control, the police were called to put an end to the festivities. Moon, ever keen to avoid the boys in blue snuck outside and got into his Silver Cloud III ( which was originally racing green, before he had it re-sprayed lilac, feeling that the shade was more in keeping with his psychedelic lifestyle) and attempted to make a getaway. Unfortunately, in his inebriated state he released the handbrake, and began rolling towards the pool. Moon simply sat back and waited, as the car crashed through the fence around the pool and into the water.

Some say he left the handbrake off and it rolled into a half-built pool that didn’t have any water in it. Others claim that he actually drove a Chrysler Wimbledon (or possibly a Lincoln Continental) into an ornamental pond. Daltrey maintains that while he remembers it happening, the details are vague, but definitely remembers the $50,000 bill for damages.
