AUGUST 9, 1986 – Queen gave what would be their last ever live performance with original singer Freddie Mercury when they appeared at the annual Knebworth Festival in Knebworth Park on the grounds of Knebworth House near the village of Knebworth in Hertfordshire, England. Over 120,000 fans attended the show, also on the bill were Big Country, Belouis Some, and Status Quo, and advanced tickets cost £14.50.
In 1987, Mercury was diagnosed with AIDS and the band together made the decision to stop touring. The band would not tour again until 19 years later, when the Queen + Paul Rodgers Tour began in 2005, after the death of Freddie Mercury on November 24, 1991, and the retirement of Deacon in 1997. The Magic Tour took in 26 dates around Europe’s stadiums, in support of their latest album “A Kind of Magic”.
