Brad Pitt supports the Hollywood strike: Formula 1 stops filming his movie

Filming in Europe for the Brad Pitt-led Formula 1 movie ‘Apex’ has been halted in support of the Screen Actors Guild – American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) strike.
The movie ‘Apex’, in which US actor Brad Pitt plays a Formula 1 driver, was also affected by the strike.

The crew was scheduled to shoot this weekend at the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps (aka Spa) in Belgium, the site of the real Grand Prix on Sunday, but filming was canceled in support of striking writers and actors.

The next scheduled shooting schedule for the movie will begin in Las Vegas in November, by which time it is hoped that a resolution between the writers, actors and studios will have been reached.

Filming took place earlier this month at the British Grand Prix in Silverstone, England. In the movie, Pitt plays an aging retired racer named Sonny Hayes who helps a novice driver (Damson Idris). The British newspaper The Sun reports that filming has been halted, citing a source:

“Brad acknowledged that they would finish the booked shoots, but postponed the scheduled shoots until two months later. The cast and crew of Apex were filming in Budapest, but Brad called for the dates to be postponed in solidarity with everyone on strike. Postponing production was a big decision, especially financially, but Brad has listened to the concerns of the people he works with and wants to show his support.”

Pitt is also producing the movie with former world champion Lewis Hamilton. The cast includes Kerry Condon, Tobias Menzies and Javier Bardem, and the director of the project is Joseph Kosinski, director of ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ director Joseph Kosinski is sitting in the director’s chair.
