Whether you put it on the cornflakes you eat in the morning or consume it as a snack, a new study by South Australia University (UniSA) shows that one portion of yogurt per day can be a solution against high blood pressure.
This study conducted with Maine University and investigated the relationship between yogurt consumption and risk factors for high blood pressure and cardiovascular health revealed that yogurt is connected with decreased blood pressure for individuals with hypertension.
More than one billion people around the world experience high blood pressure (hypertension). This increases the cardiovascular risk such as heart attack and stroke.
The cardiovascular diseases are among the top cause of death around the world. The statistics show that an individual in the US dies of a cardiovascular diseases in every 36 seconds. This is one person in every 12 minutes in Australia.
Researcher Dr. Alexandra Wade from UniSA suggests evidence linking yogurt with positive impact on hypertension patients.
According to Dr. Wade, “high blood pressure is the number of threats for cardiovascular diseases. Therefore, we need to continue to look for new ways to decrease and regulate high blood pressure.”
“Dairy products and especially yogurt can decrease the high blood pressure.
This is because of a series of micro-nutrients in dairy products including calcium, magnesium and potassium. These are related to blood pressure regulation.
“At this point, yogurt is especially interesting because it contains bacteria that support the production of proteins to decrease blood pressure.
This study shows that even a small portion of yogurt is related to decreasing the blood pressure of individuals with hypertension.” The study is published on International Dairy Journal .
