1-) Sex/Life is inspired by a true story. The series is based on BB Easton’s self-published book 44 Chapters About 4 Men, which was inspired by her own experiences in life.
2-) There is an important difference between the book and the series. BB Easton never got back together with his ex like Billie did with Brad on the show. “The undertone of the book is the same. Is there anything better? Does it get any better than this? It explores the same question… stepping up the drama,” Oprah Daily said.
3-) The show had an all-female directing team. According to Stacy, having an all-female directorial team made up of Jessika Borsiczky, Sheree Folkson, and Patricia Rozema helped create a safe space for exploration of the show’s empowered celebration of female sexuality and desire in many of its sex scenes.
4-) The creator insisted the scripts were explicit in detail for the sex scenes.Stacy Rukeyser said it was really important to her that “all the details of our special scenes are written very, very specifically on the page”. I mean, people usually ask is it real or is it a prosthetic? “And I can tell you what Adam Demos says about it, which is, a gentleman never tells. So, we are leaving that up to the viewer’s imagination.”
6-) In a flashback scene in episode four, it is revealed that years ago Brad had two bees inked around his groin to commemorate Billie. The tattoo was also commemorated in the final episode, when he declared his love to his ex while admitting that he continued to beat.
7-) Billie and Brad are together in real life. It’s unknown exactly when the pair started dating, but they became Instagram official in January 2021, when Sarah posted a photo of them together writing: “Time to celebrate. Thank you to my love @adam_demos for making it so very special.”
