Mare Of Easttown is an HBO production and consists of seven episodes, with an IMDB rating of 8.5. The series is about the murders of young women in a small town and the fresh family tragedy of detective Mare (Marianne Sheehan-Kate Winslet), who investigates them. Starring Oscar-winning actress Kate Winslet, the first episode of the series lays the foundations for a new mystery that we will be obsessed with for the next two months.
- Actually, there is a real Easttown and it is located in Pennsylvania. However, the series was filmed in a town in Philadelphia that was set up for the show.
- Mare of Easttown is a multi-layered mini-series that has a different feeling in every layer that opens up to us, thus maintaining its attractiveness until the last episode. Although the detective story in the foreground sometimes falls into clichés, we can ignore this familiarity with the presence of an ordinary but strong character like Mare, who comes to life with Winslet’s impressive charisma.
- The action that peaks at the end of the fifth episode, in fact, checks us little by little every episode, but the serene atmosphere of the series often outweighs.
- Although not much space has been opened for the characters other than Mare, played by Kate Winslet in the first episode, the presence of actors such as Jean Smart, Guy Pearce, Julianne Nicholson in supporting roles, who have made remarkable performances in the works they have taken part in, will reveal the story to these characters in the upcoming episodes. It makes you think that it will expand to open up more space.
- The Philly accent used in the show is also worth mentioning. Kate Winslet worked with her dialect coach for the Philly accent on the show, which Winslet admitted was “one of the two most challenging dialects” for her. Although there are not many examples of this interesting accent on the screen, Kate Winslet is said to have successfully handled it.
- While the series isn’t unique in terms of solving mysteries about a murder – and that’s not its pretentious side either – it deserves your attention for its gripping and highly satisfying finale. Despite the tragedy in the center of Mare Of Easttown, it has a bright side of its own and can make us laugh and breathe with details such as mother-daughter conflicts and first love inexperience. In fact, it is not impossible to find yourself laughing out loud while watching.
- Kate Winslet objected to her body being edited during the sex scene with Guy Pierce in the show. Winslet didn’t back down when director Craig Zobel (The Hunt, Westworld, The Leftovers) wanted Winslet’s abdomen to look thinner than it actually was. In the same way, she asked that the wrinkles around the eyes should not be touched on the poster of the series.
- Easttown, which we gradually came to know through Mare, can actually be seen as a common representation of the small towns where the American middle class lives and are a little stuck.
