While in New York City to record tracks for a metal compilation album, Dave Mustaine was kicked out of Metallica because of his drug and alcohol addictions. He was unaware that Metallica had already hired Kirk Hammett as their new lead guitarist. At around 9AM that morning, Hetfield, Ulrich and Burton woke up Mustaine, who was suffering from an ugly hangover, and told him he was out of the band.
