“Sharp Objects” is an American psychological thriller television miniseries based on Gillian Flynn’s 2006 debut novel of the same name. The series was created by Marti Noxon and directed by Jean-Marc Vallée, with Amy Adams starring in the lead role. It premiered on HBO on July 8, 2018.
The series follows Camille Preaker, a troubled journalist (played by Amy Adams) who returns to her small hometown of Wind Gap, Missouri, to cover the murder of a pre-teen girl and the disappearance of another. Battling her personal demons and a troubled relationship with her mother, Adora Crellin (played by Patricia Clarkson), Camille finds herself identifying with the young victims too closely.
