In the United States, Eddie and his older brother Alex were encouraged to take up musical instruments. Eddie initially started learning piano and even won some local talent competitions. However, his interest eventually shifted towards rock music, and he started learning to play the drums. At the same time, Alex started playing the guitar. Interestingly, they eventually switched instruments, with Eddie picking up the guitar and Alex taking over the drums, a decision that would shape the future of rock music.
