SEPTEMBER 12, 2003 – Singer/songwriter/musician/actor JOHNNY CASH (b. February 26, 1932 in Kingsland, Arkansas) died of respiratory failure at age 71 in Nashville, less than four months after the death of his wife, June Carter Cash. One of the most influential musicians of the 20th century, the “The Man in Black” struggled with drug and alcohol problems, marital issues, and sometimes cruel critics, but he always managed to find his way back on the right path with help from his music, friends, family, and his deep abiding faith in God and providence.
