George Harrison and Mal Evans drove to Portsmouth on this day, to meet Bob Dylan.
Dylan was due to perform at the Isle of Wight Festival on 31 August 1969; it was to be his first public performance in three years.
Dylan and his family took the ferry to the Isle of Wight later this day, and began rehearsals at Forelands Farm in Bembridge. Harrison and Evans returned to London, but returned to Portsmouth later in the week before taking the ferry to the island to watch the festival.
Dylan had travelled to the island on the day he arrived in the UK, but Harrison had to return to London to fulfill various business demands. On this day, however, George and Pattie Harrison drove to Portsmouth and took the ferry to the Isle of Wight to spend time with Dylan and his family.
