A Major Reveal at Minecraft Live

During the latest Minecraft Live event, Mojang officially unveiled the Mounts of Mayhem update, introducing brand-new mounts, weapons, and exciting survival features. The update promises to transform underwater exploration and mounted combat like never before.

Meet the Nautilus – The Ocean’s New Mount

The star of the update is the Nautilus, a massive sea creature with a protective shell that players can tame using pufferfish. Once tamed, the Nautilus can be equipped with a saddle, allowing players to explore the depths of the ocean with ease.

Key abilities of the Nautilus include:

  • Dash ability for fast underwater movement
  • The ability to leap slightly above water
  • Armor compatibility (Copper, Iron, Gold, Diamond, and Netherite)
  • The unique “Breath of the Nautilus” effect, which freezes the oxygen bar and enables infinite underwater exploration

However, players must stay cautious: Zombie Nautilus creatures now roam the seas, often carrying dangerous Drowned mobs that will attack on sight.

New Weapon: The Spear

The update also introduces the Spear, crafted from two sticks and one ingot. It features:

  • Quick stabbing attacks
  • A charged strike that can knock riders off their mounts
  • Bonus damage when using momentum in combat

This makes the Spear particularly effective against mounted enemies, adding new depth to Minecraft’s combat system.

Zombie Horses Enter Survival Mode

One of the most requested features has finally arrived: Zombie Horses are officially coming to Survival mode.

Previously only available in Creative mode, these undead mounts will now spawn naturally, often ridden by zombies armed with spears. While they can execute fast surprise attacks, they remain vulnerable to sunlight, just like other undead mobs.

Release Timeline

The Mounts of Mayhem update will first roll out through Bedrock Edition previews and Java Edition snapshots for testing. Mojang confirmed that the full release will arrive before 2026, though additional hidden features and surprises are expected.

Why This Update Matters

This update is one of Mojang’s most ambitious yet, combining exploration, survival, and combat improvements. With underwater mounts, new weapon mechanics, and zombie horse encounters, Minecraft players will soon experience a new era of survival gameplay.
